SYLVESTER MARSH and the COG RAILWAY-by Richard S. Joslin 2000.  Printed by the Sant Bani Press, Tilton, NH for the Mount Washington Railway Company.  A soft-cover publication, written by one of Sylvester Marsh's Great-Grandsons,  this book contains 43 pages printed on slick paper.  Containing many high quality pictures, the book chronicles the life and times of Sylvester Marsh.  It provides an interesting look into the life and accomplishments of this ingenious man.  This book is available from the Mount Washington Cog railway.  1-800-922-8825.

"OLD PEPPERSASS"; Her Invention and Life Story -by Rev.Guy Roberts 1930. Published by the Enterprise Press, Bristol, NH.
50 pages with b/w illustrations. Volume measures 3"x6". Written by Rev. Guy Roberts of Whitefield, NH to commemorate the final run of the Peppersass on July 20, 1929. Describes the life and times of the World's first Cog Railway engine. Several pictures accompany the text which covers the early history of the road as well as the story of the Peppersass and her travels around the country as a display.

RAILWAY TO THE MOON -
by Glenn M. Kidder 1969. Published by Courier Printing Company, Littleton, NH.
Published in a limited run of 1500 copies in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of the Cog Railway. A most substantial volume of 184 pages. Measures approx. 6"x9" and is hardbound. Many fine quality b/w pictures accompany the text which covers the history of the road from its origin in 1866 to 1969. Many detailed descriptions of engines and operations. I would consider this book a "must have" for the serious Cog fan!

MOUNT WASHINGTON COG RAILWAY -
Published by the Mount Washington Cog Railway in New Hampshire in 1969.
A small, paperback booklet of 72 pages printed on slick paper, this volume was sold at the Cog for many years. It measures 4"x6". Follows much the same format as Railway to the Moon with many pictures and details.

MOUNT WASHINGTON RAILWAY COMPANY -
by Ellen C. Teague in 1970. Published by Princeton University Press for the Newcomen Society.
A 6"x9" paper booklet of 28 pages, it contains the address delivered by Mrs. Teague to the Newcomen Society on September 19, 1969 in Whitefield, NH. A very informative and anecdotal review of the history of the Cog,well illustrated with pen and ink sketches.

I CONQUERED MY MOUNTAIN
- the autobiography of Ellen Crawford Teague in 1982. Published by Phoenix Publishing in Canaan, NH.
A detailed review of the life and times of Mrs. Teague, the former owner and president of the Cog. A hardcover volume of 159 pages, this limited to 3000 edition is signed by the author. A heartwarming and often sad story of one woman's trials and tribulations running the oldest cog railway in the world. Mrs. Teague could often be seen scurrying around the base during her years there. Never too busy for a cog fan, Mrs. Teague often answered the questions of this young cogger! It was her practice to even answer letters from a young boy full of wonder and excitement about the Cog. I thank her for her time and patience. This book is definitely a "must have".

THEY SAID IT COULDN'T BE DONE
-by Donald H. Bray in 1984. Published by Kendall/Hunt of Dubuque, Iowa.
A hardcover book of approx. 7"x9", with 172 pages, this well illustrated volume looks at the history and present day operations with a technical flavor. Mr. Bray is well acquainted with the operations of the Cog and tells the story with an insider's view. The volume contains many pictures by the author as well as old, historical views. A very detailed review of locomotives and cars is contained within its covers. A definite "must have".

THE WHITE MOUNTAINS - THE OLD PHOTOGRAPH SERIES
- compiled by Randall H. Bennett in 1994. Published by Alan Sutton in Bath,Maine.
A paperback book of 128 pages, this book measures 6.5"x9". This is one of a series of books containing views of a specific area. There are approximately 12 pages of pictures of the Cog. All of the illustrations are of exceptional quality taken by noted White Mountain photographers. A nice addition to the collection.

COG RAILWAY -
Published by the Mount Washington Cog Railway for the 125th. anniversary of the Cog in 1994. A paper booklet printed on slick paper, the volumes measures 8.5"x11" and is in full color. The text is by Donald Bray who authored They Said it Couldn't be Done. A very interesting booklet with some of the latest information in print.

MOUNT WASHINGTON -
by Peter Randall in 1974. Published by University Press of New England in Hanover, NH. A 170 page short guide and history with many pages and illustrations devoted to the Cog.

MOTOR, HAND and PUSH CARS - by Edward M. Clark in 1994.
A limited run of 500 copies, this 8.5"x11",24 page paper booklet is a review of many hand cars, push and motor driven. There are pages of illustrations and text with detailed descriptions. Of special interest is the section in the front of the booklet pertaining to the "speeders" or motor cars of the Cog Railway. Mr. Clark was the General Manager of the Cog for many years in the mid-seventies and was responsible for the construction of these speeders, one of which is still in operation today at the Cog. There are several humorous stories told by the author of some of his experiences on these speeders.

THE STORY OF MOUNT WASHINGTON - by F. Allen Burt in 1960.
A very substantial volume of 303 pages, this hardcover book covers the history of Mount Washington from the early days to 1960. There is a very good section about the railway. Mr. Burt is the grandson of the editor and publisher of Among the Clouds, the daily newspaper which was published on the summit in the late 1800's.

WORLD'S FIRST COG RAILWAY (STILL GOING STRONG 1869-1978) - by Leon W. Anderson in 1978.
A paperback booklet of 32 pages this edition was published in conjunction with the release of a commemorative liquor decanter of the Peppersass. Contains a brief history and look at the construction and operation of the Railway. The decanter was manufactured for the Old Mr. Boston Distillers Corp. and sold exclusively through New Hampshire State Liquor Commission.

EARLY MT. WASHINGTON COG RAILWAY PICTURE BOOK - by Edwin "Bill" Robertson in 1977.
A paperback book of 8 1/2 x 11, this volume contains 68 pages of black and white reproduction photos. Most of these early views are taken from stereo view cards. A fine collection of rare and old pictures.
