Current Locomotives

The Cog Railway currently has a fleet of seven steam locomotives. All of these locomotives have been rebuilt at the Cog Railway shops in recent years. I have listed the dates of the original construction although very few original parts remain. With the exception of the 8 and 10, all locomotives have new boilers.
They are all of 0-4-0 configuration and have 2 pairs of cylinders developing about 400 horsepower. With a 5 1/3 to 1 gear reduction and four cylinders, they sound like they are going much faster than the 4 miles per hour they travel. Listen for them the next time you are at the cog. Standing at the base, you can often hear them working their way far up the mountain.
While they all are of similar construction, each engine is unique. For a look at older Cog locomotives, see the Historical Locomotive page.
